Humarock is a narrow barrier spit with ocean on one side and estuary on the other. No other South Shore location gives you two water backdrops within 50 feet.

I'm Chris McCarthy, a professional dog photographer based in Rockland. I've been photographing dogs at Humarock, the Daniel Webster Sanctuary, and South River for over a decade. All temperaments welcome.

Where We Photograph in Marshfield

Marshfield has beach, open meadow, and tidal marsh — three distinct looks within a few miles of each other.

Humarock Beach

A narrow barrier peninsula barely 200 feet wide, with open Atlantic on the east and South River estuary on the west. At low tide the estuary side exposes tidal flats with mirror reflections. On the ocean side, east-facing orientation means sunrise light rakes the sand warm and low for 90 minutes after first light. One of the most compositionally flexible locations on the South Shore.

Daniel Webster Wildlife Sanctuary

500 acres of open meadow, marsh edge, and mixed woodland managed by Mass Audubon. The meadow trails in June produce a wildflower foreground that rivals anywhere on the South Shore. Foot traffic is low — birders outnumber dog walkers, and birders move quietly and predictably. My first recommendation for reactive dogs in Marshfield who need open space and low-surprise encounters.

South River

The South River winds through Marshfield's interior before meeting the sea at Green Harbor. At dawn in fall, morning mist drifts over the tidal surface and the salt marsh grass glows amber — one of the quietest, most atmospheric locations in Plymouth County. Best for clients who want something completely different from a beach portrait.

The Dual-Water Advantage

Humarock is the only location on the South Shore where I can show a client two completely different water backgrounds within a single session — without moving the car. Ocean side for the wide open horizon shot. Estuary side for the calm reflection portrait. Both within a 5-minute walk.

For clients who have been to other beaches and want something that doesn't look like everyone else's dog photo, Humarock consistently delivers a result that surprises them. The narrow spit geometry means the light bounces differently than it does on a wide-open beach, especially in the hour after sunrise.

Leashes on throughout. Removed in post-processing. Always.

Marshfield Dog Photography — FAQ

Where do you photograph dogs in Marshfield?

Humarock Beach is my top Marshfield location — it's a narrow barrier peninsula with the ocean on one side and the South River estuary on the other, giving us two completely different water backdrops within 50 feet of each other. For dogs who do better off the beach, Daniel Webster Wildlife Sanctuary's 500-acre meadow and wetland edge is ideal. South River at dawn provides tidal marsh reflections and morning mist that few South Shore clients have photographed.

Is Humarock Beach good for dog photography?

Humarock is one of the most geometrically unique beaches on the South Shore. Because it's a narrow spit, I can compose shots with ocean behind the dog, estuary reflections to the side, and the Marshfield hills in the far background — all within a short walk of the parking area. On weekday mornings the beach is nearly empty. The east-facing orientation means sunrise light hits the sand early and stays warm for 90 minutes.

How much does a dog photo session in Marshfield cost?

Sessions start at $395. That covers your session time and a complete gallery of edited images. Wall art, canvas, and framed prints are available afterward. Every package already includes your edited high-resolution digital images to keep — no separate purchase and no sales meeting.

Can you photograph reactive dogs in Marshfield?

Yes. Daniel Webster Wildlife Sanctuary is my recommendation for reactive dogs in Marshfield — wide open meadow trails with long sightlines and very low dog traffic, even on summer weekends. The sanctuary's size means we can always find a quiet section. I can also work with your dog's comfort level and keep sessions shorter and lower-stimulation if needed.

Do you travel to Marshfield for sessions?

Yes, Marshfield is fully within my service area. I travel to your location at no extra charge. Sessions can also be held at your home or property anywhere in Marshfield.

Professional Dog Photographer · Rockland, MA · 11+ years experience

I've photographed hundreds of dogs across the South Shore and Greater Boston since 2014 — every breed, size, age, and temperament. My own rescue, Sully, was reactive and anxious when I got him, and working with him every day taught me how to photograph dogs that other photographers find difficult. I specialize in reactive and shy dogs, seniors, and memory sessions — the sessions that matter most and need the most patience.
